*sorry Rob- this is nothing personal, and is strictly based on an opinion formed from multiple television, poster, book, and movie viewings. i don’t know who you really are. i know that people often look completely different when viewed in person, and opinions are like assholes… everybody’s got one. maybe if i ever meet you in person (because i just know you care so much) my opinion will change, but for now- this is it. *

Robert Pattinson is FUGLY.

especially by Hollywood standards. seriously. WTF do people see in him? i mean it! if i’ve just pissed you off by what i said, then please… tell me why i’m wrong. i’d love to hear it. maybe my taste in men is just f’d up?

i just can’t find anything remotely attractive about his face. he has a HUGE flat, round, pancake face. his features are set too far into his head, (please note the smushed down nose) and his eyes are too far apart. even when he smiles, he looks like he’s constipated and that fluffed out dorky ‘do on his gigantic noggin just makes his head look even bigger. i just don’t find that attractive. i just don’t.

if i saw him on the street as a regular guy, i wouldn’t look twice at him. he’d look just like any other average guy to me. if i was forced to appraise his physical appearance, i would say “he’s not cute at all”. but that’s if i saw him as a regular guy. Hollywood Guys are held to a much higher standard…which once again begs the question… how the hell did he get labeled as a sex symbol? YUCK!

Ryan Reynolds has the cute goofy-guy smile and a killer body. Johnny Depp has an intensity and a mystery about him that you can’t help but be drawn to. Antonio Banderas has the ultimate sexy voice that you don’t even notice once you catch a glimpse of him. Brad Pitt. Christian Bale. George Clooney. Colin Farrell. David Beckham. Orlando Bloom. Will Smith. Matthew McConaughey. Matt Damon.

that’s just a few. where does Robert Pattinson fit into all that? he doesn’t!

SO.

please, either come up with a remotely convincing excuse for his popularity, or get his face off the streets!

it’s okay that he’s in a movie.

it’s okay that he has lots of little (little as in young) adoring fans. every movie star deserves adoring fans. but please, can we stop advertising him so much? i’m tired of turning on the television and being forced to watch him act out (poorly) yet another “i want her but can’t have her” love scene. seriously. i’m tired of seeing his face on posters. i’m tired of opening up my web browser, and being smacked in the face with yet more intimate details of what he was wearing today. the “knit-brow intense look” is starting to get really old.

let’s limit the posters to the concert hall where the Jonas Brothers are playing, and keep the movie previews with him in them between re-runs of iCarly and The Suite Life.

don’t even get me started on Kristin Stewart.

mkay?

thnxbye.

do i have your attention now? good. if you haven’t clicked on another website in disinterest by now, then you probably already know who i’m talking about. don’t worry, i’m not going to write a massive post ranting OR raving about the Duggar family. i don’t know enough about them personally to give a true, knowledgeable opinion about the family itself, so i’d rather just not go there.

what i DO have an opinion about, however, are families in general modeling themselves after the Duggars. like all popular television shows and books, they have gathered their own little following of haters and lovers alike. it pains me to see a family like the Duggars get so much attention just because they have a lot of kids, because there are people out there who are, at this very moment, trying to model themselves after the Duggars… unfortunately, they don’t have the money, or the health to do so.

i don’t think there’s anything wrong with “leaving it up to God” as far as child bearing goes- if you have the means to do so. what i have a serious problem with, is people who decide to “leave it up to God” when they don’t have jobs, or don’t make enough money to support their ever-expanding family, or are morbidly obese or have health issues that repeated pregnancies would eventually kill them, and leave their children motherless.

i want more children. if i had 1 or 2 more kids, my family would nudge into a qualifying slot for government help, and we could coast by using your tax money. i could have done that… but i didn’t. my husband got a vasectomy because we are already blessed with two beautiful children. i don’t want to live the rest of my life on the charity of others. when i first had K we took full advantage of qualifying for government help, and went into the WIC program until my husband got on his feet, and got a better job. we used it so we could live more securely while building a better life for our family… we did not use it as a way of life for our family.

i think every loving, responsible household has the right to have 1 or 2 children to love and take care of, even if that means getting outside help.

what i don’t think is right, is when people don’t have the means to support a large family, yet they continue to have kids. they throw in the excuse “we’re leaving it up to God, He will provide”, and have a baby every year despite having to take hand-outs from friends, family, and the Government just so they can feed and clothe those God-provided children.

just because the Duggars did it, doesn’t mean everybody should.

i recently heard someone declare their intentions to be just like the Duggar family. the “leave it up to God” part, that is. i’m not ashamed to admit, that it made me angry. what right does this unemployed, low-income family have, who already has more than twice as many kids as i do, to keep having kids? i don’t think it’s fair to the children they already have that they’re going to have to keep cutting corners to pay for more kids just to satisfy the biological need to reproduce. do they have no control over their own impulses? are they so completely ruled by their hormones that they can’t step back and see the poor quality of life they’re already giving their children?

sure, Paris Hilton looks blissfully happy in her designer clothes and her designer life… but that doesn’t mean i’d jump at the chance to be her if the opportunity was within my reach. sadly, there are teenage girls out there who idol worship Paris, because they’re just too ignorant (or stupid) to know better.

the same goes for the Duggar family. there are people out there who are too stupid to realize that not everybody can pull off that lifestyle.

it pains me slightly to write this post, because i know i am probably offending someone out there, and i don’t like to do that. i don’t like writing about controversial subjects, because i know there is always more to the story than is always evident in the beginning, and i like to consider all sides without actually taking one. i just couldn’t keep my mouth shut on this one.

for me? having dreams to become just like the Duggar family just because you read their book, is baseline stupidity. i can not support that, and i can not feel happy for an obviously suffering family who decides to be like that.

with the upcoming release of The Princess and the Frog, i’ve been doing some thinking about the Disney Princess franchise. back when i was a kid, they were just beautiful princesses who i wanted to be just like… when my son was a baby, they were just begining to blossom as popular Halloween costumes and dress up figures, and now that i have a daughter, i’ve come to realize that the Disney Princesses are indeed a full blown franchise. there’s everything for Disney princesses… movies, dress up clothes, toys, pencils for crying out loud.

normally, i’d roll my eyes and call them money grubbing bastards who are just trying to appeal to my little girl so they can make a buck. but for some reason, i just can’t bring myself to dislike Disney for exploiting little girls dreams all across the globe. they’re just so pretty. and they sing good.

most of us probably had a favorite princess when we were growing up… for me it was Cinderella. i think it’s because that’s the video my mom always put on the tv to get me to shut up. i loved The Little Mermaid as well, but my earliest memories go back to Cinderella.

one thing that has been brought to light with the newest Disney film release, is the racial aspect. a lot of people are rolling their eyes at The Princess and the Frog, because it almost feels like Disney’s gone out of their way to introduce a black princess. personally? i think it’s great. Disney is trying to appeal to little girls across the globe. up until now, they appealed to every variety of caucasians out there. Ariel- white redhead. Cinderella and Aurora- white blondes. Snow White- white black hair. Belle- white brunette. they’ve also covered Asians with Mulan, Native Americans with Pocahontas, and Middle-Easterns with Jasmine. they’ve got the entire scope of skin color covered with some princess or another, why not a black princess as well? i think it’s kind of cool. it’s like their personal “no little girl left behind” program.

i think the movie looks cute.

now. that being said… i have 2 questions for you.

What is your favorite Disney Princess movie? (non-princess movies, like Alice in Wonderland, don’t count)

Who is your favorite Disney Princess?

my favorite movie, once i saw them all, (with exception of The Princess and the Frog, since it hasn’t been released yet) was always Aladdin. i think it was probably the music that eventually won me over, because i think the magic in all the movies is equally impressive.

as for me, i really like Belle from Beauty and the Beast, and Jasmine from Aladdin. Belle is the sweet bookworm, and naturally, i could see myself as her. although nowadays i think i compare more to Cinderella than anybody else… Jasmine appeals to my rebel side. she’s a saucy vixen with a mind of her own, and i dig that in a chick. she also has wicked cool long hair and pants. pants are good.

read this article, and then tell me what you think about it.

in a nutshell, this woman (5’10″, 120 lbs) was fired from her job as a Ralph Lauren model because she was too big for the sample clothing. she’d already been with the company for 8 years, and they were firing her. i can understand them not hiring someone new because they don’t fit into the sample clothing… after all, 5’10″ is pretty tall by normal feminine standards, and if they don’t already fit in the clothing, well, that’s just the way it is. but 120 lbs is frighteningly skinny on on a woman 5 inches shorter than that, and she’s already got a successful history with the company.

anyways. part of the controversy is because they took an ad in which she modeled in, then photo shopped her image to the point where she looked comically skinny. she looks like a damn bobble head, [note, her head is actually larger than her hips] and for some reason Ralph Lauren actually thought it was better than her natural figure. of course, they pulled the ad when people started talking bad about it, but that should have never have happened to begin with.

seriously?

this woman is gorgeous, and what i want to know, is what planet are these Ralph Lauren jackasses from??? who is it in the “high fashion” industry that still thinks women have to look like starved little green men in wigs to be attractive???

the new wave of fashionistas

are they really so behind in the times, that they haven’t figured out that a full figure is gorgeous? why is it that the porn industry is the only industry that seems to realize that women should have a little T&A? c’mon! the porn industry literally makes their $$$ selling sex, (which is ultimately the reason people wear attractive clothes to begin with) but yet in order to sell clothes, the models have to look emaciated? i just don’t get it.

it genuinely makes me ill to think that somewhere there really is a world in which The Devil Wears Prada actually exists. (that was a great book, btw) the idea that people still think like that completely baffles me. anorexia was SO 90s. get over it already, Fashion Week.

it’s no secret that i love to read. voraciously. i’ll give anything a chance, because i’ve found something in just about every genre that i love. however, it’s very rare that i find and author that i love. i’ve learned over the years, that each book needs to be judged by itself, not by the person who wrote it.

take Lisa See. i adored Snowflower and the Secret Fan. the book was compelling, the characters interesting and i found myself constantly wanting to know what happens next. naturally, i jumped on her next book, Peony in Love. i read it as long as i could stand it, but in the end- it chalked up to a spoiled, whiney main character that i couldn’t care less about. if she ever did manage to find love, i didn’t care. i just didn’t want to have to listen to her ignorant, stupid prattling anymore. i dumped that book in my library donation box, and haven’t looked back since.

that’s why i try not to get excited when i see a new book written by a specific author that i’ve enjoyed before.

the authors that my author love awards go to, are different. i’ve devoured every book they’ve written, and gone back for more of the same story several times. my picks aren’t for everyone… my love of fantasy is reflected in my choices for all time favorite authors. i may branch out into other genres, but fantasy literature will always be first in my heart, and on my reading list.

i actually have 2 picks for my Author Love Awards.

the first one, is Terry Goodkind. he gets my “Old Author Love Award”. why old? because his books have been with me since the very begining. they’ve been with me since i stole the very first book in the Sword of Truth series off my mother’s bookshelves. he’s written more than 7 books in that series, and each one was just as unforgettable as the one before it. i’ve read, and re-read them all, and i never grow tired of them. he has a new book out called The Law of Nines, that i haven’t read yet. hopefully he still manages to do his talent justice, because he is an amazing author. it isn’t just his writing ability that makes him one of my all time favorite authors- he’s a real person to me. i’ve never met him, but i’ve actually written fan mail to him, and he’s written back. sure, maybe he hires someone else to respond to fan mail, (i’m not naive enough to imagine the god of fantasy literature himself pouring over my handwritten letter, and responding personally) but that’s okay. i can’t begin to imagine how much fan mail he actually receives, but i can imagine that it’s way to much to pay personal attention to each one. no, what i do give him credit for is making sure that his fan mail is responded to in a personal way. he doesn’t just send a pretty signed bookmark and a generic “thanks for reading” note. both times i’ve received replies from him, i’ve gotten signed book covers, signed book marks, and letters that responded to specific points in the letter i wrote, along with a hefty dose of wisdom and advice that almost had me in tears of inspiration. i love that guy. not just because he writes amazing books, and hasn’t failed me yet… but because he seems to genuinely care about his fans.

my second is the “New Author Love Award”. Brandon Sanderson is fairly new on the fantasy scene… his first book, Elantris, was published only a few years ago…which is fairly green by Terry Goodkind’s standards, who’s books were being taken away by my teachers in jr. high. no, Brandon’s books are new…but they are all amazing. even now, i’m forcing myself to rip my eyes away from the pages of “Warbreaker”, his newest fantasy novel. he may be new to the fantasy world, but his ideas are so refreshing… my favorite thing about Elantris, and the Mistborn series after that, is that they aren’t the same old recycled swords and magic that you get from most fantasy novels. sure, there are swords and magic in all the books (it is fantasy after all) but he gives them a twist that i would never have thought of, and i’m pretty sure nobody else has either. Brandon Sanderson has gone against the tides of fantasy, and brought to the table something new and original. it’s something that is very difficult to do nowadays, and for that he gets my “New Author Love Award”.

now, if you’ll excuse me… i have to get some chores done so i can re-attach my eyes to the pages of Warbreaker.
