THIS is one of the reasons i think that all schools should implement a detailed sexual education program in their curriculum. i am perfectly capable of teaching my children about sex. i WILL teach my children about sex. unfortunately, however, there are some people out there who won’t teach their children properly about sex. or will be too stupid to see that saying “you have sex, and a baby grows” just doesn’t cut it. or worse, there are children out there right now who are learning the dark side of sex through an abusive friend or relative.
it’s not for my children that i think all schools should include sex ed, and chances are it’s not for yours either… it’s for the small handful of children out there who were raised by wolves. it’s for the small handful of children who will never know that having sex can give you a disease or get you pregnant until it actually happens. it’s for the handful who are being abused, and never knew they could get help.
i will speak to my children about sex, and hopefully before they attend the classes that tell them all about it they will already know. hopefully, if i teach them properly the class won’t do any damage if they explain something wrong, or don’t include a little morals session with their education. why? because i will already have spoken to them, and they will know that if they have any questions they can always come and ask me.
some kids can’t do that. some kids have moms and dads who are so involved in work- whether it’s selling houses or selling crack- that they don’t pay attention to their precious children. it’s not for my kids that i think a sexual education program should be in every school, it’s for those kids.
because parents SHOULD teach their children the ins, outs, rights, and wrongs about sex… but not all parents WILL.
