This is Why I Don’t Like Guns

this is why i don’t like guns. this is why i don’t want them in my home, or near my kids. this is why i think that if you don’t feel the same way i do, and you keep guns in your home anyways, you should LOCK THEM UP. you should also teach your children as soon as they’re old enough to walk gun safety, how to handle a gun properly, and how dangerous they can really be. you should also keep track of who is staying in your home, and whether or not they have a gun, or items in their possession that could be dangerous to your children. just because they’re guests doesn’t mean that the medicine or vitamins they keep in their purse/luggage couldn’t kill your kid. just because they’re guests doesn’t mean that your kid couldn’t get a hold of a knife or a gun in their stuff and hurt someone.

let me be perfectly clear about this- i have several friends and my own father owns several guns. my husband was practically raised in a gun store in Alabama. just because i don’t think guns have a place in my home doesn’t mean that i hold it against you if you do. but please, please lock them up. especially if there are EVER children around. yes, i realize that if you lock your gun up, you may not be able to get to it in time to stop an intruder, but i’d rather take that chance, than chance my kid or a visiting kid getting the gun to play with.

so many children don’t understand the true lethality of guns. so many parents don’t understand that just because their kids sometimes show good sense, doesn’t mean that they ALWAYS will. my son is a pretty trust worthy kid… i trust him to help me with E around the house, and help keep an eye on her when i’m using the bathroom, or cleaning up and not keeping a constant eye on her. he’s usually a BIG help, but the other day i found him chowing down on his bottle of vitamins… if they had iron in them, they could have killed him. i trusted him too much. i had explained the dangers of medicine and vitamins to him, but sometimes kids are just STUPID. they’re just KIDS. dangerous things such as medicine, vitamins, and GUNS shouldn’t EVER be left around within a kid’s reach. trust your kids, but don’t trust them too much, no matter how good you think they are. it could save their lives someday.
