i know, the whole point of Twitter in my sidebar is to keep this uber personal crap off my post section. but this time, there’s just so much, i’m gonna have to block it all in right here. don’t forget to check out the previous post. it comes complete with a pic of a little green man.
we all remember the controversy following K’s glasses? (remember the eye-drop phobia?) i took him to his 6 week follow up a couple days ago, and he still has a slight lazy eye. it needs to be treated, or it could get worse. luckily for us, there’s an alternate course of treatment for the next 6 weeks. i have to give him an eye drop in his left eye every morning for the next 6 weeks that will basically blind his left eye so his right eye has to work harder to see, and strengthens up a bit.
if you missed the post on what happened last time he went to the doctors and had to get his eyes dilated, then you know just how bad this is. sure, i could go with patching instead… but while he may prefer wearing a pirate patch to eye drops right now, he won’t prefer it ten years from now when kids are still calling him “patchy” or “arrrrgh”ing at him while he walks by. if my kiddo has to wear a patch to fix his lazy eye, it’s gonna be over the summer. i just can’t do that to my kid. i’m really hoping the eye drops work, but the morning struggle to get them in a hysterical 7 year old who is deathly afraid of eye drops is NOT a good time.
we almost didn’t have any eye drops at all to worry about, because when i went to find them… they were gone. completely vanished from the place i put them. of course, that began my mad flurry to hunt them down in whatever completely ridiculous place i put them. it didn’t even occur to me to ask K where he put them. finally, J suggested i ask K about them, and he ‘fessed up to hiding them. from that point, J was so pissed that K would go so far as to hide them from me, that he took care of the whole thing.
folks, if you don’t know the ‘daddy effect’, you should. any situation is instantly less severe and tear inducing with daddy to handle it. they got his drops in with no problem, and i was able to have lattes ready for everyone by the time they finished. all in all, a successful first treatment.
next on my agenda is a shower so i can tackle the sick-side of the doctors office with both children. K came home yesterday with a fever, sore throat, and general feeling of ickiness. last week his teacher sent a note home informing us of a strep outbreak that had one kid in his class hospitalized…so rather than wait the fever out (which is what i normally do) i’m taking him straight in for a strep test so we can get it treated asap. i’m also taking the baby in to get her ears checked, since she’s been extremely fussy lately. it’s mostly at night, but i suspect either more killer teething or an ear infection. since i’m already taking one kid in, i’m going to go ahead and take in the other one… i don’t want to have to go there any more than necessary. i hate the doctors office…. i don’t even like breathing in there, with all the nasty germs floating about.
my goal of the day? get in and out of the doctor’s office without touching anything, get whatever meds my children need, and get back into my pajamas as soon as possible.
i’ll let you know how that goes.
ETA: K has strep throat, E has…. teeth.
