if you only buy one book for your child ever, let it be this one. sure, there are other great books that your children will love. my son learned how to count to ten because we used to read “Goodnight Sweet Butterflies” all the time. The Pickle Book has been loved by two generations of my family, and is still giggled at on a regular basis. there are picture books that toddlers will love, and illustrated story books that kids drool over, but for me, none of them hold the timeless sentiment and pleasure that this book does.
it’s about a lazy cat named Oliver, who enjoys his days as the king of his apartment. he has everything he wants, and life floats by in a lazy haze of contentment with his owner, Miss. Tilly. until (there’s always an “until” in good stories!) one day Miss Tilley brings home a fuzzy, fluffy little bunny rabbit named Marshmallow. what follows, are valuable lessons every child should learn on tolerance towards different ways of life and how to make the best of, and enjoy, change. the book is illustrated in simple, soothing pastels, and who doesn’t love an adorable bunny and kitty cat???
